Doctor of Education, Ed.D.

The objective of the Educational Leadership Doctoral program is to prepare professional educators to become change agents in their school. Coursework will lead students through visionary planning, strategic utilization of resources, effective management and leadership, and practical application of research. With its flexible course offerings, the Doctorate of Educational Leadership is convenient for full-time working educators.

Program Overview

Hours

The professional doctorate (Ed.D.) requires 60 hours post-master depending on the time required to complete the capstone project. If a candidate has a Specialist in Educational Leadership or a related field from another university, the specialist degree may be accepted in the Ed.D. in its entirety; however, a prerequisite of two courses must be met prior to beginning the Ed.D. program.

Delivery Method

Students will take two classes each trimester. Classes are delivered in a fully online format that is perfect for the working student who wants to take their education to the next level. Classes are designed to be flexible and require no synchronous meetings. William Carey uses Canvas as the learning management system for online coursework.

Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements

Prospective students must:

Complete an online application & pay application fee

Hold a related specialist degree from a fully accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.25

Submit official copies of all transcripts to Graduate Admissions via eScript or mailed from the institution

Provide documentation of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score taken in last five years (competitive)

Provide two recommendations from past or current supervisors

Provide a copy of valid teaching license or completed waiver of licensure form

Submit a current resume that includes your leadership and community service experience

Set Yourself Apart

Students who have been accepted into the Ed.D. program and have completed three years of successful teaching in a P-12 setting may also take four additional classes (12 hours) and complete an internship (three trimesters/one hour each trimester) by documenting 400 hours of internship activities with two licensed P-12 administrators to meet the requirements to be recommended to the state department for a P-12 administrator/principal’s license (486).
