Pianist Michael Gurt to Perform at William Carey University

Hattiesburg, MS, September 18, 2008 - Pianist Michael Gurt, the Paula Garvey Manship Distinguished Professor of Piano at Louisiana State University, will perform in concert Monday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.

Gurt is a piano mentor at the Hot Springs Music Festival
in Arkansas and served as head of the piano department at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival for 21 years. He earned degrees from the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School. In 1982 he won first prize in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and was a prize winner in international competitions in Pretoria, South Africa, and Sydney, Australia.

A recording artist on the Naxos, Centaur and Redwood
labels, Gurt has performed as a soloist throughout the United States and at City Hall in Hong Kong, the Victorian Arts Center in Melbourne,
Australia, Baxter Hall in Capetown, South Africa, and the Attaturk
Cultural Center in Istanbul, Turkey.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for senior
