Quality of Life Project Celebrates Summer with Picnic

Hattiesburg, MS, July 20, 2010 - Dr. Paul Cotton, professor of psychology and music therapy at William Carey University and director of the Quality of Life Project, slices watermelon with QLP participants Eddie Melton and J.D. Guthrie during the Summer Celebration Picnic held recently in Ellisville.

The QLP expands the leisure options of persons with special needs by allowing each client to have an interdependent relationship with a pre-professional student in the fields of either music therapy or psychology and by fostering new experiences for clients including travel, movies, live theatre and restaurant dining.

The project is funded through the John Morris Testamentary Trust and Ann Morris Memorial Fund. The Quality of Life Project honors the life of John’s late daughter, Ann, who was mentally disabled. Guthrie, a member of the Ellisville United Methodist Church, drove the church bus and grilled hamburgers during the picnic.
