The William Carey University School of Education sponsors a float in Hattiesburg’s annual Christmas parade. But instead of throwing beads or candy from the float, Carey students, faculty and staff give out books to every child along the parade route. The project not only benefits the children and families who receive the books, but also the students in Carey’s teacher preparation program. The parade project is one of many community service initiatives of the university’s chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.
