Hattiesburg, Miss., May 28, 2013 - Steve Knight, athletics director and head men’s basketball coach at William Carey University, was named the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Athletic Director of the Year at the annual SSAC awards banquet on May 20. The SSAC is the largest conference in NAIA and includes schools stretching from South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 23, 2013 - Albert Galeas, a 2012 graduate of William Carey University and current Spanish teacher at N.R. Burger Middle School, was recently named District New Teacher of the Year for the Hattiesburg Public School District. Galeas, who teaches 7th and 8th grade students, began teaching at N.R. Burger in August. The award was presented by Hattiesburg Public School District Superintendent James Q. Bacchus during a ceremony at Hattiesburg High School of May 1.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 23, 2013 - William Carey University’s School of Education, Health, and Physical Education will offer an Interscholastic Athletic Administration (IAA) degree beginning in Summer 2013. This is a Master of Education degree designed to meet the career aspirations of individuals desiring to pursue careers as athletic directors or in the business side of private sector sports organizations.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 15, 2013 - Chad Newell, president of the Area Development Partnership, will speak at William Carey University’s graduate commencement ceremony on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. Nearly 800 students will graduate from WCU in four ceremonies.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 14, 2013 - William Carey University and the Tradition community announced their intent to create a Health Care Industry Zone centered around WCU’s Tradition campus on Highway 67 in Harrison County during a press conference at WCU on Monday, May 13. Tradition, a 4,800-acre master planned community, is located seven minutes north of Interstate 10 at the intersection of Highway 67, 605, and Tradition Parkway.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 10, 2013 - For the fourth consecutive year William Carey University will have a record number of graduates. Over 800 students will receive degrees at Carey in one of four graduation ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students of the Hattiesburg and Tradition campuses May 17-18. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, will preside at the ceremonies.

John Polk will speak at one of William Carey University’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 18, at 9:30 a.m. in Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. Nearly 800 students will graduate from WCU in four ceremonies. This ceremony is for students receiving undergraduate degrees from the school of arts and letters, school of nursing and school of natural and behavioral sciences.

Chris McDaniel will speak at one of William Carey University’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. in Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. Nearly 800 students will graduate from WCU in four ceremonies. This ceremony will honor graduates receiving degrees from the school of business, school of education, school of missions and Biblical studies, and the school of music.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 9, 2013 - Hanna Moore of Richton, a senior elementary education major at William Carey University, was recently named a 2013 Outstanding Teacher Intern by the Mississippi Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (MACTE). During a ceremony at the Mississippi Department of Education building in Jackson, she was honored alongside other outstanding teacher interns and met Interim State Superintendent of Education Dr. Lynn House.
