Hattiesburg, Miss., August 23, 2013 - William Carey University hosted a Dedication Ceremony for Davis Hall, the newest women’s resident facility on the Hattiesburg campus, on August 22. The residence hall is named for Ralph and Cora Joyce Davis, alumni of Mississippi Woman’s College (WCU’s predecessor). Located directly behind Byrd Hall on the south end of campus, Davis Hall accommodates nearly 100 women to relieve the school’s housing crunch.

Vu of Houston, Texas, has been chosen by the American Osteopathic Foundation’s (AOF) Board of Directors and its Committee on Grants and Awards to receive a 2013 Welch Scholars Grant for $2,000. Students were selected based on their academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, commitment to osteopathic medicine, and financial need.
Hattiesburg, Miss., August 13, 2013 - The William Carey University Smith Rouse Library will present an exhibit of its Bible facsimiles collection in the main foyer of the library on August 22-23 and August 26-30 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. This collection of Bible facsimiles demonstrates the development of Biblical translations that gradually served to place the Bible into the hands of laypersons, as well as how translations were impacted by the works of certain preceding translations. The exhibit is open to the public and free of charge.

Tradition, Miss., August 8, 2013 - William Carey University student Lucy Landry of Biloxi was awarded The Betty Dettre Visual Arts Scholarship on August 6 during a luncheon at the Country Club of Jackson. Mrs. Betty Dettre, a visual artist, established The Betty Body Dettre Library and Research Center at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., which is a special collection of research material on women artists.

Hattiesburg, Miss., July 30, 2013 - Approximately 500 students will receive degrees at William Carey University in one of four graduation ceremonies August 9-10. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, will preside at the ceremonies, which are for undergraduate and graduate students of the New Orleans, Hattiesburg, and Tradition campuses.
The ceremony for students on the New Orleans campus is Friday, August 9, at 5 p.m. in Leavell Chapel at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. The speaker for the ceremony is Dr. Janet Williams, dean of the WCU School of Nursing.

Biloxi, Miss., July 29, 2013 - William Carey University’s Tradition Campus, located on Highway 67 in Biloxi, is offering a new Saturday Business Program that will be available beginning in the Fall 2013. Offered for the convenience of working individuals, the program courses will be held on Saturdays and will allow students to complete a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Management/Marketing.
