Hattiesburg, Miss., September 24, 2013 - David “Charles” Laird III of Leakesville, a recent graduate of William Carey University, was recently accepted into a prestigious Ph.D. program in Roman Art and Archaeology at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. Charles, who graduated in May, was WCU’s first M.A. graduate for the department of history and social sciences. His master’s thesis was the History of the Church in Late Antique Turkey, and he plans for his doctoral project to be an expansion of his thesis.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 23, 2013 - The William Carey University School of Education will host the Gulf South Teaching Pedagogy Conference October 4-5 in Thomas Business Building (TBB) on the Hattiesburg Campus. This undergraduate/graduate research methods conference will focus on impacting classrooms by using pedagogy that promotes common core curriculum and learning mastery. The keynote speaker is Dr. Betsy Roberts, National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) in 2003.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 18, 2013 - University of Mississippi Medical Center pediatrician Dr. Hannah Gay, who has gained worldwide recognition for finding a functional cure for an HIV-positive infant, presented the first University Lecture of the 2013-2014 academic year at William Carey University on September 17 in Tatum Theatre. Following the presentation, Dr. Gay spoke to WCU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine students and conducted a question and answer session.
