Hattiesburg, Miss., December 12, 2012 - William Carey University student-athletes Anna-Lauren Fontenot and Alex Lahasky were presented with the David M. Halbrook Award. The awards were presented during the Halbrook Awards Luncheon held at the Hattiesburg Lake Terrace Convention Center in October as part of the 79th annual Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities (MAC) Conference hosted by WCU.

Hattiesburg, Miss., December 5, 2012 - Dr. Orlando R. Burt, senior pastor of Word of Faith Christian Center in Hattiesburg, was the guest speaker for William Carey University’s Christian Leadership Lecture on December 5 in Smith Auditorium.

Dr. Burt founded the Word of Faith Christian Foundation, a non-profit organization, and from that Word of Faith Christian Academy was established.

Hattiesburg, Miss., December 5, 2012 - William Carey University will be hosting an introduction to dance and musical theatre workshop with Jonathan Sharp from January 7-11 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Carey’s Smith Auditorium in the Thomas Fine Arts Center. Non-Carey students, ages 16-25, are welcome to attend. Cost of the workshop will be $200 for non-credit students. Students do not need prior dance experience to participate.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - William Carey University hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of “A Juried Exhibition of Watercolors and Sculptures” by the South Mississippi Art Association (SMAA) on November 29 in the Lucile Parker Gallery in the Thomas Fine Arts Center.  During the reception, the winners of the exhibit were announced.

 Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - The Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum of Art at William Carey University will host a reception to celebrate the opening of an exhibit featuring toys crafted by Harry Griffith of Columbia on Tuesday, December 4, from 5-6 p.m. The exhibit will be on display December 3-19.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - Dr. Jim Futral, executive director-treasurer of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, was the guest speaker for William Carey University’s chapel on November 28 in Smith Auditorium. The Carey Jazz Band, led by Wes Dykes, coordinator of instrumental music and assistant professor of music, and Jim Armstrong, assistant professor of music, performed prior to Dr. Futral’s message.

William Carey University will celebrate the Christmas season with an Old Fashioned Christmas Festival on Tuesday, December 11, from 5 - 8 p.m., outside of the Common Grounds Coffee House on the Hattiesburg Campus. The festival will feature pictures with Santa Clause, Christmas games and musical performances. The community is invited to enjoy food, fellowship, and music with activities for the entire family.

Event t-shirts will be available for $15 each at the festival.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - Two William Carey University music students received high honors at the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference and Competition for the Southern Region held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge November 8-10. Brandon Hayes, a senior from Collins, took first place in the Upper Musical Theatre Category and second place in the Graduate Men’s Category.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - Dr. Italo Subbarao, associate professor of medicine and associate dean of planning, assessment, and competency development at William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), was recently named to the editorial board for The Journal of American Osteopathic Association (JAOA). The JAOA is the official scientific publication of the American Osteopathic Association, as well as the scholarly, peer-reviewed publication of the osteopathic medical profession.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 27, 2012 - William Carey University will host a reception to celebrate the opening of “A Juried Exhibition of Watercolors and Sculptures” by the South Mississippi Art Association (SMAA) on Thursday, November 29, from 5 - 6 p.m. in the Lucile Parker Gallery in the Thomas Fine Arts Center.  Thirty-one watercolors and 10 sculptures are on display. The exhibit runs through December 14.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 27, 2012 - Seven William Carey University students were formally inducted into the WCU Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society on November 14 on WCU’s Hattiesburg campus. Established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing, Sigma Tau Delta invites members to join based on academic excellence.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 19, 2012 - The William Carey University Winters School of Music presented “A Service of Thanksgiving” on November 15 at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium. The service featured music by the Oratorio Choir, the Carey Chorale, the Symphonic Winds, and the orchestra.
