Hattiesburg, MS, May 23, 2014 - he International Dyslexia Association (IDA) recently announced that William Carey University’s Master of Education in Dyslexia Therapy program is one of eight university programs in the U.S. that has received accreditation from IDA for having met the standards outlined in the IDA’s Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading.

Hattiesburg, MS, May 13, 2014 - William Carey University and the Area Development Partnership (ADP) honored Wyche McMullan, owner McMullan Motors, with the 2014 Small Business Leadership Award during the 22nd Annual Small Business Leadership Luncheon held May 7 at Southern Oaks House and Garden. Brent Christensen, executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority, served as keynote speaker for the event.

Hattiesburg, MS, May 12, 2014 - William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) will officially obtain accreditation from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) following the inaugural medical school graduation ceremony on May 24 at 10 a.m. in Smith Auditorium. Ninety-one students will receive their doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees during this historic event.

Hattiesburg, MS, May 12, 2014 - Dr. James “Jim” Turner, dean of the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), was appointed to Team Chair for the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). The appointment to this position followed the announcement of the WCUCOM’s official accreditation from COCA, which will be complete after the inaugural WCUCOM graduation ceremony on May 24 at 10 a.m. in Smith Auditorium.

Hattiesburg, MS, May 12, 2014 - William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) will hold a Donor Memorial Service in Bass Memorial Chapel and Ross Anatomy Lab on May 16 at 2 p.m. The service will honor the lives of those who donated their bodies to the WCUCOM for educational purposes. The memorial service will begin in the chapel with a invocation, a welcome by President Dr. Tommy King, remarks by WCUCOM Dean Dr. Jim Turner and WCUCOM students, and an address by Anatomy Course Director Dr. David McWhorter.

Hattiesburg, MS, May 7, 2014 - Robert Rafael Sudduth of Gulfport, a second-year medical student at William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), recently received The Randolph J. and Brenda H. Ross for Excellence in Anatomy Award. Dr. Jim Turner, dean of WCUCOM, presented it to him during Honors Day Convocation on April 30. The award, established by Dr. Ross and his wife, is given to the WCUCOM student who has the highest Grade Point Average in anatomy.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 29, 2014 - The William Carey University Alumni Association inducted five outstanding graduates into its Hall of Fame at an awards dinner on April 25 at Southern Oaks House and Garden. The alumni were Gerald C. “Jerry” Bracey (‘87), Dr. Leo Day (‘88), W. Michael Hannaford (‘85), Dora Dunkley Harbin (‘56), and Chief Judge L. Joseph Lee (‘69).

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 28, 2014 - William Carey University inducted 13 new members, all students on the Hattiesburg campus, into the Mississippi Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society on April 2. Membership into Alpha Chi is limited to no more than 10 percent of the junior, senior, and graduate class members, and WCU students must have at least a 3.70 Grade Point Average on the 4.0 scale to qualify.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 25, 2014 - William Carey University’s Carey Strings Program will present the Sinfonietta String Ensemble Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 29, at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center at 7 p.m. Conducted by Daniela Pardo and Dr. Sasha Ferreira, both adjunct music instructors at WCU, this free concert will feature soloists Rebekah Stark Johnson, adjunct instructor of music, and Zachary Smith on the cellos.
