Hattiesburg, Miss., November 18, 2013 - Retired William Carey University professor Dr. Walter Butler has just completed his newest book, “The Journey of Mankind – The Eschatology of Man from His Creation to His Eternal Destiny,” and WCU will hold a book signing for Dr. Butler on November 19 at 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the WCU Bookstore. The books will be available in the bookstore for purchase. They can also be found at Barnes and Nobles, the Laurel Baptist Bible and Bookstore, Xulon Press, and through as an e-book.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 15, 2013 - The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) hosted its first Residency Fair on November 9 at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center in downtown Hattiesburg. Representatives from 23 residency programs attended this event as well as students from all four WCUCOM classes. This event provided an opportunity for students to visit booths and discuss postgraduate options regarding internship and residencies.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 15, 2013 - Richard “Dick” Vogel of Hattiesburg has been recently named associate vice president for athletic and university advancement at William Carey University.

Vogel formerly served as associate director of athletics at The University of Southern Mississippi. Over the tenure of the 17 years he worked for USM, he also served as associate athletic director and executive director of the Eagle Club. Prior to working at USM, Vogel worked as a quality engineer at Sunbeam Corporation in Hattiesburg.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 13, 2013 - William Carey University’s chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society was recently named a Star Chapter for the 2012-13 academic year.

Only 15 percent of the more than 300 Alpha Chi chapters receive this honor. In addition to individual academic standards, Alpha Chi members must meet chapter requirements to be recognized.

Alumni from across the state joined William Carey University at a reception held in the chapel parlor of First Baptist Church Jackson on Tuesday, October 29. The reception was held in conjunction with the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

In 1911, W. S. F. Tatum, wealthy lumberman and Methodist layman, acquired the property and offered it as a gift to the Baptists. He set two conditions: successful operation of a Christian school for girls for five years and an enrollment of at least one hundred students the first year. The property consisted of two surviving frame buildings and ten acres of cut-over land. A corporation was organized to own and control the college with nine trustees chosen from Baptist churches in Hattiesburg.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 5, 2013 - Three ensembles from William Carey University’s Winters School of Music – the Grace Notes, Spirit of Carey, and Tuscan Reeds - will be performing in a concert in Downtown Disney of Disney World on November 14 at 5 p.m. They will also be marching in a parade on November 15 at Epcot Center at 10:30 a.m. On their way to Disney World, the groups will make a stop on November 13 and perform at Niceville High School in Niceville, Fla., and at First Academy in Leesburg, Fla.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 4, 2013 - Dr. Myron Noonkester, dean of the Noonkester School of Arts and Letters, has recently been named as the 2013 Mississippi Humanities Teacher of the Year for William Carey University. A faculty member from each of the community and senior colleges in the state is chosen for this recognition each year.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 31, 2013 - William Carey University student-athletes Kyle Curtis and Lauren Douglas were recently presented with the Halbrook Award that is given by the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, recognized the students during WCU’s chapel service on October 23.
