The Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum of Art at William Carey University in Hattiesburg hosted on November 11 the opening reception for the Katrina Restoration Exhibit, an exhibit of artwork restored following the disastrous 2005 hurricane.

The William Carey University Theatre will present “Adventures from Aesop’s Fables,” adapted by Jeanna Graves and Deanna Graves, on December 11-12 at 7 p.m. and December 13 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre.

Approximately 2,000 area high school students attended the annual Pine Belt College Fair at the William Carey University Hattiesburg campus on November 5.

Groundbreaking was held for a new men’s residence hall at William Carey University on October 31.
The new building will adjoin Davis Hall, a women’s residence hall completed in 2013, and will be behind Braswell Hall on the south end of the Hattiesburg campus. It will be directly across from the Fail Softball Field.

A reunion of students from Mississippi Woman’s College, a predecessor to now-William Carey University, was held at the WCU Hattiesburg campus on October 24.
During the reunion, guests enjoyed lunch, reminiscing about the Woman’s College days and hearing an update on WCU’s current status and future from Dr. Tommy King, president.

Tim Matheny, chair of the Department of Theatre and Communication and assistant professor of theatre at William Carey University, was recently named the university’s 2014 Humanities Teacher of the Year.
As part of the award, Matheny presented a lecture entitled “The Power of Theatre: A Look into the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Theatre’s Influence on Modern and Historical Societies” at WCU on October 23.

Four William Carey University art majors will have their works displayed during “Emerging Artists” exhibits at the Lucile Parker Gallery in October and November.
The first exhibition, featuring seniors Joanna McKenzie of Monticello and Amber Holifield of Collins, will be on display from October 21-30. The opening reception is 4:30 until 6 p.m. on October 23.
