Hattiesburg, Miss., August 15, 2012 - Iris Easterling, retired assistant professor of language and literature and curator of the Sarah Gillespie Art Museum at William Carey University, has published an extensive collection handbook for the  museum. Easterling and Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, presented the first copy to local artist Tommie Hollingsworth-Williams on August 7.

Hattiesburg, Miss., August 14, 2012 - Stephen G. Fletcher, second year medical student from Hattiesburg, was presented with the Asbury Award for academic excellence by William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  The Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg endowed the award to recognize the student from the Asbury service area who achieves the highest grade point average during his/her freshman year.  Mr. William K. “Bill” Ray, president and CEO of the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg, Inc., presented Mr. Fletcher with a medallion and Dr.

Hattiesburg, Miss., August 10, 2012 - The Area Development Partnership, the Historic Downtown Association (HHDA), the City of Hattiesburg, and VisitHATTIESBURG hosted a private reception to welcome the new William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) students and faculty on Wednesday, August 8, at the Historic Depot in downtown Hattiesburg. Featured speakers included Betsy Rowell, executive director of HHDA; Web Heidelberg, president of HHAD; John Brown, assistant to the mayor, speaking on behalf of the City of Hattiesburg, and Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU.

Hattiesburg, Miss., August 7, 2012 -  The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) welcomed new students to school with orientation activities August 1-3. Included in the orientation schedule were welcoming sessions, distribution of medical instruments, lectures on study skills, overviews of courses, a student organization fair, and breakfast fellowships sponsored by Amite County Medical Services, Inc., Regions Bank, and Crowne Apartments.

New Orleans, La., August 7, 2012 - William “Bill” K. Ray, president and CEO of the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg, Inc., spoke at William Carey University’s commencement ceremony for students on the New Orleans campus on August 3, in Leavell Chapel at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. This graduation was one of the four ceremonies WCU held August 3-4, with nearly 400 students graduating.

Hattiesburg, Miss., August 2, 2012 - The William Carey University chapter of the international music fraternity Delta Omicron recently traveled to Lexington, Ky., for the fraternity’s triennial conference. The chapter, Omicron Sigma, received first place in scrapbooks as well as the Award of Excellence and the Award of Efficiency, which are the highest awards a chapter can receive.

Hattiesburg, Miss., August 2, 2012 - The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) welcomes its new class with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, August 1, followed by a week of orientation activities. The 108- member class includes 67 men and 41 women, the majority of whom are from or have ties to the Gulf-South U.S.

Nathan Barber, a 1994 graduate of William Carey University and the head of upper school at Second Baptist School in Houston, Texas, recently published Resurrecting Lazarus, Texas, which is his thirteenth book.

The book tells the story of a young coach who takes over a struggling high school girls’ basketball team in a West Texas town where football is the only sport that matters. Halfway through the season, tragedy strikes and leaves the team and community fighting for a way to bring life back to their town.

If you had asked William Carey University alumna Ame Karoly two years ago what she would be doing after graduation she never would have dreamed she would be living in China. However, Karoly currently works at Linyi Normal University in Linyi, China, full-time as a foreign communications assistant in the international office and part-time as a conversational English teacher.
