WCU volleyball open tryouts: Dec. 9
William Carey University will hold open tryouts for the women's volleyball team on Friday, Dec. 9 in the brand new volleyball facility located on County Drive in Hattiesburg. Tryouts are open to high school seniors, sophomore junior college transfers, and current Carey students.
The schedule is as follows:
3:30 p.m. meet with admissions counselor
4:15 p.m. tour of campus
5:30 p.m. registration begins
6:30 - 9 p.m. tryouts
Prospective players should bring the following:
- Copy of high school or college transcripts
- Copy of ACT/SAT scores
- Copy of physical
- Water bottle
- Club volleyball 2017 schedule (if applicable)
The WCU volleyball team completed its inaugural season earlier this month. ";This was a very successful year for our inaugural team, and I am proud of each and every one of our athletes," said Coach Kelsea Weldon. "We managed to compete with all of the teams in our conference, and we learned a lot. We are excited to train this spring and to add more depth to our program. We are looking for athletes with experience who are ready to help our team make big moves next season!";
Coach Weldon previously coached at Oak Grove High School and is the owner of the Hub City Volleyball Club. Lauren Broom is assistant coach. The WCU team is one of 11 women's volleyball programs competing in the Southern States Athletic Conference, a Division I affiliate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
