The Lucile Parker Gallery is hosting the South Mississippi Art Association Juried Art Exhibit at the Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum at William Carey University.
Robert Williams won Best in Show and was recognized at the opening reception on Sept. 7. Williams grew up in Hattiesburg and dedicated his painting “Confetti” in honor of Dr. Milton Wheeler, who he said was like a second father to him. Wheeler was a history professor at Carey for more than 40 years and also served as athletic advisor for more than 30 years.
Additional exhibit award winners were: first place, Ed Ford, Tones and Textures, pyrography; second place, Terry Tjader, Windows Too, magnolia wood turning; third place, Carla Carlson, Silhouette #1, acrylic mixed media on birch; honorable mention, Jo-Ann Adams, Belly Dance, watercolor; Gary Delancey, Guitar, oil; Gwen Yin, Grapes, Chinese ink.
“SMAA is grateful to all the amazing people at WCU who made this show possible,” said Pam Breazeale, SMAA vice president.
The exhibit will run through Sept. 28 at the Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum at William Carey University. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For appointment, call Ed Ford at (801) 755-4052.
