Lady Crusaders Secure Five Victories at Softball World Series, Finish Season with 52-12 Record
Hattiesburg, MS., June 2, 2014 - The William Carey University Lady Crusaders softball team recently competed in the 34th Annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Softball World Series held at South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, GA, May 23-29. Although the Lady Crusaders fell to SSAC rival Auburn Montgomery (AUM)10-6 in the championship game, they did beat AUM earlier in the day 7-4 to force the deciding game of the championship. The Crusaders, ranked No. 6 in the nation, concluded the event with five victories. The Annual Softball World Series is a 10-team, double-elimination event hosted by the Columbus Sports Council.
Relanda McFarland of Shubuta, Hannah Cook-Kelley of Phoenix, AZ, and Caroline Walker of Woodville were named to the 2014 NAIA All-World Series team. McFarland, Walker, Sarah Beckman of Meridian, and Jasmine Shelby of Gulfport were named to the 2014 McFarland, Walker, Sarah Beckman of Meridian, and Jasmine Shelby of Gulfport were named to the 2014 National Fast Pitches Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region South team.
