WCU Alumnae Return to Coach Softball Camp

Hattiesburg, MS, June 20, 2014 - William Carey University held the annual Softball Day Camp at Carey’s Kennedy Sports Complex, June 10-12 and again June 17-19, coached by WCU Head Softball Coach Wendy Hogue along with Assistant Coach Craig Fletcher and a group of former Carey softball players.

The softball player alumnae who assisted with the camp were Anna Ard of Petal (class of 2011), assistant fastpitch coach and biology teacher at Petal High School; Alyssa Boutwell of Purvis (2008), pitching coach and math teacher at Biloxi High School; Megan Pittman Capuano of Gulfport (2008), softball coach and science teacher at West Harrison Junior High; Shana Gunter of Vancleave (2011), assistant softball coach and physical education teacher at Moss Point High School; Leah Kilpatrick of Greenville, N.C. (2008), Small Volume Finishing Supervisor at medical supply company Hospira; Kaitlyn Perry of Madison (2012), assistant softball coach at Madison Central High School and physical education teacher at Madison Middle, and Brittany Ladner Rogers of Gulfport (2008), varsity softball coach at West Harrison High School.

The camp allowed girls ages 13-18 to learn new techniques and practice their game. Running from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 4:30 p.m., Coach Hogue said that the camp covers all aspects of the game of softball, from throwing to catching, hitting to running, and introduces the young girls to the game of fastpitch. On Thursday, both groups of campers were split into teams to play games of fastpitch softball, and friends and family were invited to attend.
