Student Government Association

Dear Crusaders,

On behalf of the Student Government and the entire William Carey student body I would like to welcome all new students to the most remarkable chapter in your life.  I am very pleased you chose to join our Carey family, and I pray that this institution and all it stands for will leave a lasting impact on your academic and spiritual lives.  To our returning students: welcome back! We are equally as pleased that you chose to return to continue the journey that you started just a few years ago.

No matter what stage you are in your academic life, I would like to encourage you all to truly know the meaning and to take up the label of a Crusader. The meaning of Crusade in its most basic form, cruciata, is to make a great effort concerning a worthy cause.  No matter what that worthy cause is for you, whether it is to pursue a degree in medicine, a degree in education, an acting career, or if it’s simply to find that special someone, I pray you will meet those goals with extreme focus and great patience.

I would also encourage you to get to know your professors.  Our faculty here at Carey is second to none, and I know from personal experience they will go out of their way to ensure that you learn. Do not be afraid to approach them if you’re struggling with a class.  I assure you they will guide you in the right direction, whether it is clarification on a certain topic or refer you for tutoring.  They are here to ensure that you are prepared for what is beyond your years here.

Lastly I would like to encourage you all to get involved on campus through any outlet.  Whether it is intramural sports, fraternities, sororities, Student Government, or any other campus organization, I believe there is something for everyone. However, if you do not believe there is an organization that fits your interest, you are more than welcome to consult with the student activities office in starting one.  I am very proud of our campus organization. The majority of them have an extreme focus in not only participating in, but making a difference in our society as a whole.

If you ever need anything, have any concerns to express, or simply want to sit down over coffee and chat, my office is in Room 104 of the Student Center. Feel free to drop by anytime! Have a wonderful school year!

Your Servant,

Gabriel D. May
