CELEBRATION

Children (first through eighth grades) are invited with their teachers to join William Carey University student teachers in the Young Authors' Celebration (YAC). Children from schools around the state work with their teachers writing and illustrating their own book.  When the books are published at their schools, these young authors and illustrators (YACers) will attend the March Celebration.

Young Authors' Celebration will honor the creativity of young artists while promoting lifelong reading, writing, and visual expression.  These children will meet authors and then share their own books with other books with other young authors from district schools, both public and private. 

Celebration events include meeting regional authors and illustrators, touring the college campus, participating in a Book Fair, having lunch on campus, meeting WCU student teachers, and sharing their books with other students.

CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES

Young Authors' Celebration will be held on the William Carey University campus. Students will be invited to the School of Education with their books.  The participants will go to workshops on writing and illustrating.  They will also take a tour of the academic community.  Four hundred children and teachers will be invited to the Celebration.

WCU BOOK FAIR

Barnes and Noble Bookstore will be hosting an Authors Book Fair during the Celebration.  Each class will visit the Fair during the lunch period.

HOW DO I BECOME A YOUNG AUTHORS' CELEBRATION TEACHER?

Joining the Celebration is a commitment to Writer's Workshop in your classroom.  Using the techniques of the Workshop, your students will go through the drafting, editing, and publishing stages of writing and illustrating.  Children can work together in teams as they create their stories and illustrations.  We are offering to come to your school and provide a 45 minute presentation to your YAC students.  Please sign up with Dr. Hornsby or Dr. Morris for a YAC visit.

WHAT IS THE COST?

The cost of the event is $10.00 per child or teacher.  There are limited reservations available.
