William Carey University gives you the opportunity to earn your bachelor’s degree in education and become a licensed highly qualified elementary teacher or secondary teacher in a variety of concentration areas from the arts to the sciences. All of the undergraduate degrees you may choose to pursue will insure that you are well prepared for your own classroom as well as making sure you stand out from other teaching candidates. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction will work to insure you are only paired with highly qualified field supervisors who understand the importance of a well-rounded educator.

In addition to the undergraduate degrees you may pursue, William Carey University also offers the Master of Education and Educational Specialist degrees in a wide range of fields as well as programs of study to add endorsements to an existing license. So if you want to expand your area of expertise by adding a new endorsement or want to enhance your knowledge base with an advanced degree in your current field, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction stands ready to guide you in becoming a reflective, caring professional.


Meet the Chair

Dr. Katie Tonore

Dr. Katie Tonore is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of Teacher Education for the School of Education at William Carey University.  She has over thirty years of classroom experience and has benefited from a variety of educational opportunities such as serving as literacy coach for the MS Department of Education, Director of Implementation for the Barksdale Reading Institute, graduate and under-graduate coordinator at the University of Southern Mississippi, educational consultant for the MS Center for Education Innovation, Bailey Education Group, CORE and Millenium Educational Systems. Katie is a member of MLA, MsECA, and the Louisiana-MS Board of International Dyslexia Association. Katie and her husband Bobby have three daughters and six grandchildren.
