Jim Armstrong joined the Carey faculty in 2011 as Assistant Professor of Music. He is a native of Tupelo, MS and has been active in Church Music and Music Education for 38 years. He is currently serving as Coordinator of Undergraduate Field Experience and serves as the assistant conductor of Carey Chorale.
Mr. Armstrong has served five different school districts in MS with over 45 Superior Ratings at MHSAA Festivals and District Festivals for Choral & Band Adjudication. His choirs have appeared at State MMEA and ACDA events in MS. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Education and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Mississippi.
He is a member of ACDA, Mississippi Singing Churchmen, and MS Baptist Symphony Orchestra. He and his wife, Dorothy have been married 37 years and have two children, Jay & Lee, and are the proud grandparents of three grandsons. Mr. Armstrong has served as a clinician and adjudicator in MS and AL. He currently serves as Worship Pastor at Highland Baptist Church in Laurel MS. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife and playing golf.
