Mrs. Michelle Dykes has been teaching at William Carey since 2012. Her courses include Applied Lessons in Clarinet and Voice, Clarinet Ensemble, Sight Singing & Ear Training, Music Appreciation, and Advanced Woodwind Methods. Mrs. Dykes was an adjunct instructor of music at the University of Mobile for 3 years before coming to Carey. She also taught both instrumental and vocal music classes and private lessons for over 25 years, to students of all ages, at music schools and conservatories in Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, & Florida.
Mrs. Dykes is currently the principal clarinetist of the ElseWhen Orchestra in Mobile, AL and performs with the William Carey Symphony Orchestra, the City of Hattiesburg Concert Band, and the Hub City Swing Band. She previously played in the University of Mobile Symphony Orchestra, the Virginia Wind Symphony, and many other ensembles across the southern states.
Mrs. Dykes is an active soprano vocalist. She has performed leading roles in several operas and musicals, and currently assists in leading worship at her local church. She has been a guest soloist for many church events and community concerts and has led worship for women’s conferences. Her vocal highlights include performing duets with worship artists, Charles Billingsley & Larnelle Harris.
Mrs. Dykes received undergraduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University, and she earned a master's degree at William Carey, with concentrations in clarinet, voice, and saxophone. She holds a current Mississippi Teacher License with endorsements in K-12 Instrumental and Vocal Music and is an active member of the MMTA and the MTNA.
