Hattiesburg, MS, June 3, 2014 - Carey Dinner Theatre (CDT) is pleased to announce its 2014 season. "The Spitfire Grill," a musical drama based on the movie of the same name, will be presented June 12 - 28, and will be followed by "Pump Boys and Dinettes," a musical comedy set at a garage and road-side diner, July 8 - 19. Performances will be presented in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.

"The Spitfire Grill" tells the heart-warming journey of Percy, a young woman just released from prison, who starts life over in a small American town. Percy and the locals share drama, family secrets, gossip and forgiveness in frequently funny, sometimes touching encounters. The Associated Press describes "Spitfire" as "a lovely new musical in the Rodgers and Hammerstein tradition," and the New York Times called it "a soul satisfying work of theatrical resourcefulness". "Spitfire" was written by James Valcq with lyrics and book by Fred Alley, and is based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff.
"Pump Boys and Dinettes" is a high energy musical comedy set between Frog Level and Smyrna, Georgia. It tells the story of four men who work at a gas station and two waitresses who own the Double Cupp Diner. The original, knee-slapping music features Tony Award Best Musical nominated songs "The Night Dolly Parton Was Almost Mine," "Farmer Tan," "Closing Time," and "Be Good or Be Gone." The New York Times describes it as "a singular mixture of country-pop and musical theatre." The New York Post says that the two words that best describe it are "totally terrific." "Pump Boys" is conceived and written by John Foley, Mark Harwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann.
The box office opens June 2 and will be open daily except Sundays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. To make reservations call 601-318-6221. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. and the performance follows.
