WCU Theatre presents "The God Committee"
William Carey University Theatre will present the drama “The God Committee” by Mark St. Germain on Oct. 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Joe & Virginia Tatum Theatre in Hattiesburg.
“The God Committee” takes the audience into a medical meeting room where three doctors, representing medicine, money, and morality, argue for each of their patients to receive a heart transplant.
The audience never sees the patients onstage as their representatives assess the “value” of each of their lives. The time constraints associated with keeping a human heart viable for transplant add to the nervous atmosphere. “The God Committee” focuses on the plight of doctors chosen to choose between life and death for a collection of human beings whose lives are as complex and unique as their souls.
The cast includes Nurse Nelson (Damien Williams of Chunchula, Alabama); Dr. Gorman (Taylor Abbott of Picayune); Dr. Klee (Omari Hawkins of Grand Prairie, Texas); Dr. Ross (Clare Kelly of Olive Branch); Domenick (Shelby Sheffield of Picayune); Dr. Banks (Courtney Borchert of Picayune); and Father Dunbar (Nathan Wilkins of McComb).
The production is directed by Keone Fuqua, chair of the WCU theatre and communication department. Dewey Douglas of the WCU theatre faculty is scenic designer and student designer mentor. Lighting designer and stage manager is Nadia Trinanes of Hattiesburg; and sound designer is Chace Giadrosich of Beaumont. Branden Lindsay of Simpsonville, South Carolina, is properties master.
Reservations can be made by calling (601) 318-6221 beginning Monday, Oct. 9. The box office will be open Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are free for WCU students, faculty and staff; $5 for students from other schools; $8 for military and senior citizens; and $10 general admission.
