Art students exhibit work at Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition
Four students from William Carey University were selected to exhibit their work in the 2018 Mississippi Collegiate Arts Competition. The exhibit opened at the University of Mississippi Museum in Oxford on Feb. 6 and will continue until March 10. An opening reception will take place on Feb. 10 from 2-4 p.m., and winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at 3 p.m.
"The art department is honored to have six pieces selected for the statewide juried 2018 collegiate exhibition, including four paintings, a fundamental design piece and a graphic design piece,” said Chatham Kemp, associate professor of art. “It is a great honor to see our students do well in competition with other young artists from around the state."
There was a total of 693 entries from 10 colleges and universities, and 100 works were selected for the show. Of the works selected, three paintings were submitted by Carey student Hannah Wegner, a senior art major from Perkinston. Other students whose work was selected are Ryserrio Thomas, a senior art major from Wiggins; Abigail Earnhart, a senior English major from Ellisville; and Aaron Bevily, a senior art major from Hermanville.
