WCU hosts 11th Annual Pine Belt College Fair
William Carey University’s Waddle Sports Complex welcomed more than 2,000 high school students Nov. 7 to the Pine Belt College Fair.
“This is the eleventh year William Carey has hosted the Pine Belt College Fair. It has grown over the years and is now the largest in the state with students attending from a 12-county area,” said WCU Director of Admissions Alissa King.
“The fair allows students to visit with more college representatives than could attend a single high school fair. It saves on travel expenses for our college and university colleagues and helps high school counselors present as many options as possible to their students.”
Visiting high school students had a chance to speak with about 30 college and military representatives. They explored admissions requirements and deadlines, scheduled campus visits, and researched scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
Ninety percent of all William Carey student receive financial aid.
King said WCU doesn’t want any high school student to give up on getting a college education: “We can make it affordable. There are plenty of financial aid and work study opportunities – as well as academic, talent and athletic scholarships. We just want them to come on campus and explore those opportunities. I don’t want any student to feel like college is not an option.”
Brandon Dillon is WCU’s director of international admissions.
“It is an honor to host this event for our community,” Dillon said. “The most rewarding part is seeing students get excited to meet with college representatives from their favorite universities.”
