State of the State: Praise for Tradition Medical City
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant spoke Oct. 19 at the ribbon-cutting for the WCU School of Pharmacy in Tradition.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant praised Gulf Coast developer Joe Canizaro, William Carey University and Tradition Medical City in his State of the State address. Bryant delivered his speech at the Mississippi State Capitol on Jan. 15 before a joint session of the Mississippi Legislature.
Gov. Bryant’s State of the State included these remarks:
"I realize that, to many of us here tonight, and to those watching and listening, there seem to be two Mississippis occupying the same time and space. The proverbial critics would have you believe that one is a declining state whose people are suffering mightily. They search for problems as if there is a reward for finding them. (…)
"From the outset, this administration identified the value of healthcare for the well-being of Mississippians and our economy. Our effort to identify healthcare as an economic driver continues – understanding that access to care must be the beginning of any good healthcare plan. (…)
"In the Piney Woods of Harrison County, another medical community is emerging. It now includes a new William Carey University pharmacy school and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College nursing and simulation center. The presence of a national obesity and diabetes research center, in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, is also a testament to our collective determination in making Mississippi’s own medical city.
"The visionary who has invested much of his personal and corporate achievement in this growing medical city in Tradition is with us tonight. His father was a Biloxi physician and he has returned to help build this medical miracle. Please welcome with me one of America’s great entreprenuers, Mr. Joe Canizaro. Joe, thank you for what you’re doing."
