Carey Theatre presents "The Real Inspector Hound"
William Carey University Theatre will present the comedy spoof, “The Real Inspector Hound,” by well-known British playwright Tom Stoppard Oct. 3-5 at Joe & Virginia Tatum Theatre. Show time on Oct. 3-4 is 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The play follows two theatre critics named Moon and Birdboot, who are watching an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, when suddenly they become part of the play they are watching. The action takes place in Muldoon Manor, owned by Cynthia, one of the loves of Simon. Unfortunately, another of Simon’s loves and Cynthia’s best friend, Felicity is also visiting the manor. While a thunderstorm rages outside, the housekeeper Mrs. Drudge and Cynthia’s brother-in-law Magnus become part of the intrigue when a dead body is found. Inspector Hound arrives in time to sort everything out. Or does he?
Written in 1962, “The Real Inspector Hound” draws on Stoppard’s experiences as a theatre critic and parodies the familiar parlor mysteries like Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” – which opened WCU Theatre’s season last year.
“The Real Inspector Hound” is directed by Dewey Douglas, professor of theatre.
