The Mississippi Business Journal chose Dr. Janet Williams as a 2019 “Healthcare Hero.” Dr. Williams is the associate vice president of WCU’s College of Health Sciences.
The award was included in a special issue of the MBJ in October, which praised her accomplishments:
“This issue pays tribute and recognizes the outstanding men and women whose contributions have increased the well-being of the community and comforted and healed the lives of those who need them,” the MBJ said.
“Williams has received several honors, most notably Outstanding Young Woman of America, Who’s Who in Nursing, Who’s Who in Women Executives, 2011 Women of Achievement Award, and School of Nursing Administrator of the Year for 2014 and 2015 – during which time the School of Nursing at WCU was recognized as being the School of Nursing for the Year for the State of Mississippi.”
Dr. Williams was appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant to the Mississippi Board of Nursing for the years 2014-18. She has membership in Sigma Tau International, Upsilon Theta Chapter, and has served as chair of the Mississippi Council of Deans and Directors.
“The astounding growth of our healthcare programs was recognized by the Mississippi Business Journal with the selection of William Carey’s associate vice president for health programs, Dr. Janet Williams. Congratulations to Dr. Williams and all the faculty and staff who supported her in this effort,” said WCU President Dr. Tommy King.
No. 1 rankingIn other news, College Factual ranked WCU’s nursing program No. 1 among the six colleges offering bachelor’s degrees in nursing. A national academic ranking organization, College Factual’s methodology considered factors like average salaries of graduates, accreditation and educational quality.
