Pharmacy professor presents vaping lecture
Dr. David Weldon of the WCU School of Pharmacy presented a lecture Jan. 8 called, “Vaping and Juuling: Essential Information for E-Cigs and How Juul changed the Game.”
With vaping in the news, Weldon discussed the mechanics and devices used in vaping, the industry’s youth marketing campaigns, health risks associated with vaping fluids, lung injuries and deaths related to vaping and how vaping is used as a smoking cessation tool in the United Kingdom.
“This is a very significant topic in our society and, as educators, it is our mission to provide pharmacists with resources on important topics such as vaping. This allows pharmacists to help educate their patients,” Weldon said.
Presented in conjunction with the Mississippi Pharmacists Association, the lecture was attended by area pharmacists to fulfill a requirement for two hours of live continuing education on topics related to addiction. Weldon also presented this continuing education topic at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in Jackson.
