School of Education posts record enrollment
The William Carey University School of Education announces a final summer 2020 enrollment that sets a new record in the history of the department.
The School of Education’s summer enrollment of 1,365 students surpasses the previous record set in fall 2017. It also marks a 71 percent increase over summer 2019 enrollment.
“This growth comes as the result of hard work and dedication of the faculty and staff, but it is also a sign that many more people in Mississippi are considering education as a profession,” said Dr. Ben Burnett, WCU acting executive vice president and dean of the School of Education.
“Our mission is to help solve the teacher shortage in our state, and this record enrollment is encouraging because it shows we are making progress. We are thankful for wonderful students who are helping to make this possible.”
According to statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, WCU’s School of Education is the largest in the state – graduating an average of more than 500 graduate and undergraduate students in each of the last three years.
The WCU School of Education offers degree programs at the university’s Hattiesburg and Tradition campuses.
