WCU senior receives Hub Award scholarship
Trent Gilbertson of Petal received a scholarship Nov. 11 during the annual Hub Award banquet at Lake Terrance Convention Center.
Gilbertson is a senior at William Carey University majoring in communication studies and minoring in business administration. A President’s List student, he will graduate in May 2022. Gilbertson serves on the Student Government Association and is a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society.
He is also a member of the Crusader golf and debate teams. He was recently named to the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and selected as an SSAC Champion of Character.
The Hub Awards were established in 1979 to recognize outstanding citizens for their achievements and contributions to the community. This year’s Hub Awards went to businessman and attorney Abb Payne and retired U.S. Army Col. Sheila Varnado. The annual event also supports the Hub Award Endowment at the Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation to benefit students attending William Carey University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Each year, scholarships are awarded to two students, one from WCU and one from USM, who have demonstrated leadership and community service. Gilbertson was the WCU student chosen to receive a scholarship; the USM student who received a scholarship was Lucas Williams.
