WCU ranks No. 2 on "Best Colleges in Mississippi" list
In its annual review, Niche ranked William Carey University No. 2 on its “Best Colleges in Mississippi” list. This category compared colleges and universities both large and small, public and private, church-affiliated and secular.
“I’m proud of our university family for the decades of hard work which has resulted in this honor. An award of this distinction didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of countless hours and sacrifices by our faculty and staff,” said WCU President Dr. Ben Burnett.
“William Carey University has been one of the best-kept secrets of Mississippi for far too long. We’re on a mission to share the news of the wonderful education in a Christian environment that students can receive on our three campuses. This ranking will help us push out a message about quality education at an affordable price.”
Founded in 2002, Niche uses data from the U.S. Department of Education to rank education providers from individual K-12 schools and school districts to four-year colleges and universities. This year’s results considered more than 1,000 top colleges and universities in the U.S.
Factors included in Niche’s analysis included academic strength, professors, value for cost, campus life, athletics, diversity, student life, dorms, dining and location.
Niche differs from other ranking organizations in its emphasis on reviews and comments from current students and alumni, which are published at www.Niche.com. Here’s a sample of WCU reviews:
- “I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 2023 and cannot say enough good things about William Carey and the instructors. As a transfer student from large state university programs, the transition was a little disorienting because WCU instructors are far more approachable and interested in students’ experience and personal philosophies. The class size for major classes was very comfortable, eight to 15 for education, and many core classes have both in-person and online-only options.”
- “I graduated from William Carey in May of 2023. I completed a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine studies. Carey's science department is fantastic! The professors genuinely care about their students and will go the extra mile to help them succeed. They are passionate about their work and it shows!”
- “I enjoyed my learning experience at William Carey. The curriculum was tailored to my career field. The instructors were thoroughly detailed and prompt in feedback. William Carey prepared me to be an effective nurse leader and a knowledgeable advocate for the profession.”
WCU also received three national rankings in Niche’s annual review – No. 3 (of 333) in “Best Christian Colleges,” No. 9 (of 972) in “Best Colleges for Education,” and No. 30 (of 968) in “Best Small Colleges.”
