Due to the impact of the Covid-19 virus, the WCU School of Pharmacy has been working diligently to make the necessary social distancing accommodations to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and applicants.
To ensure that we answer your questions, we would like to provide you with the following information related to our pharmacy application process.
Application Deadline
Our application deadline is May 1, 2023 for this enrollment cycle. We recommend that you apply early to avoid any delays in your application verification through PharmCAS.
PharmCAS Application Updates
PharmCAS is working hard to avoid any interruptions in the application process and has developed a web page specific to the Covid-19 Virus. PharmCAS has been updating the information on a regular basis, so I encourage you to visit the PharmCAS Covid-19 web page for up-to-date information.
If you need to contact PharmCAS directly, then please contact their Applicant Help Center.
Unofficial Transcripts
PharmCAS will not accept unofficial (student-issued) transcripts from applicants in the 2022-2023 cycle.
Interview Days
Please refer to PharmCAS’ policy if you are a no show at our Interview Day. See the Interview No Show Policy.
PCAT
One of the benefits of our program is that we do not require applicants to take the PCAT. It is not a requirement for our program.
World Education Services (WES)
WES is continuing to process foreign transcript evaluation reports for international (non-U.S./foreign) study and provide customer support during regular business hours. However, applicants with pending WES reports may experience delays in part due to slowdowns from international universities that are affected by the virus and, as a result, are shut down and not issuing documentation. Please contact WES to check the status of your report, if needed.
PharmCAS Background Check via Certiphi Screening
You will be required to complete a criminal background check via Certiphi Screening. Currently, background checks via Certiphi have not been interrupted. However, some sources and partner locations may experience delays. If your case is affected, Certiphi Screening will have the ability to reopen the search report at a later date to deliver a completed search result to your college or school of pharmacy.
Immunizations
If you have been accepted into our program and are trying to get the required immunizations, we recommend that you contact your primary health care provider, the Health Department and/or any Walk-In clinics and ask them for their business hours. Email pharmacyadmissions@wmcarey.edu and pharmacypreceptor@wmcarey.edu if you experience delays.
Online Labs
Our program requires in-person labs. We understand that the Covid-19 pandemic may cause some issues with meeting this criteria.
Any online labs taken pre-COVID would need to be re-taken, even if they are only offered online.
Those labs taken during COVID and pre-submission would be acceptable. For future term enrollment, the applicant would need to provide proof that an online course was the only viable option (as opposed to taking a local class in-person). If your school is currently offering in-person labs, then you should enroll in the in-person lab rather than an online lab.
We will review all online labs on a case-by-case basis.
Pass/Fail Policy
Given the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, William Carey University School of Pharmacy will review Pass/Fail course grades once a student’s final grade has been submitted.
A failing grade will not be accepted or given credit. If a student received a Passing grade and has been awarded a ‘P’ grade, then the student must provide an official letter from the professor who provided the ‘P’ grade stating the overall course percentage or percentage quartile (10% = A, 20% = B, 30% = C) that the student received.
The letter must be submitted in a timely manner in order for your application to advance in the review process. We will not accept letters after June 1, 2023 for the incoming July 2023 class.
This policy is in effect for the 2022-2023 application cycle.
William Carey University Guidelines
William Carey University has developed COVID-19 guidelines for how they are operating during this time. This may be beneficial if you are taking pre-requisite courses at the university. The university will add information to this page as it becomes available. Although the School of Pharmacy has specific requirements for our School of Pharmacy students, we encourage you to maintain vigilance and take all the precautions that you can to safeguard your own health and well-being, as well as everyone else's. The requirements will be provided to accepted students at or prior to orientation. We are CAREYSTRONG!
We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy during these challenging times. If you have any further questions, please email pharmacyadmissions@wmcarey.edu.
