Vogel formerly served as the Associate Vice President of Advancement before retiring and returning as the Senior Project Manager. Prior to coming to William Carey University, Vogel was the associate director of athletics at The University of Southern Mississippi where he also served as the executive director of the Eagle Club. Vogel retired from the State of Mississippi and moved across town to William Carey University. In addition to working with all academic departments to include the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Pharmacy School, Vogel aggressively helps the Athletic department with all their fund-raising and marketing. After an EF3 tornado destroyed Carey’s Hattiesburg Campus, he headed a disaster relief golf fund-raiser that raised over $100,000 played on four golf courses with 352 entries.
Before moving back to Hattiesburg (He taught Army ROTC at the University of Southern Mississippi (1980-83), Vogel retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. His service included commanding three companies, serving as the operations officer for one of the first “Light Infantry Battalions” and upon completion of that assignment with the 2/9 infantry, going to Fort Benning where he wrote the first “Light Infantry Battalion” Operations Manual. He also served in Korea and Germany, and culminated his career with Desert Shield/Desert Storm Operations where he served with FORSCOM (U.S. Army Forces Command) as the enlisted personnel strength manager for the XVIII Airborne Corps.
Dick is married to his college sweetheart Debbie They have two children, Tara and Jackie, both living in Texas. The Vogels have four granddaughters.
