WCU announces scholarship for missionary families
Dr. Brett Golson announced a new scholarship for North American Mission Board families this summer, during the 2024 Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in Indianapolis.
Golson is the vice president of strategic operations for William Carey University – and a former dean of the Cooper School of Missions and Ministry Studies.
The new scholarship will be awarded to qualifying and endorsed dependents of North American Mission Board (NAMB) employees. The undergraduate scholarship includes tuition, on-campus housing, textbooks, and a meal plan.
“The DNA behind this is serving those who serve. God has blessed us to the point that we can turn around now and bless those who are serving. Think about missionaries in the field all over the world. We want them to be able to drop their kids off without worrying. We’re going to take care of them while they’re out serving,” Golson said.
The new scholarship is similar to an earlier one available to International Mission Board families.
“For years, we’ve honored IMB dependents. Now we’re reaching out to NAMB dependents,” said WCU President Dr. Ben Burnett.
“It feels like we’re connecting Dr. William Carey, more than 200 years later, to people serving today in the mission field. We’re able to provide relief so they don’t have to worry about the cost of education.”
