William Carey University conducts a Commencement Ceremony in May and August each year. Please use the information below to prepare for your graduation.

Students who have cleared their degree requirements and financial accounts will receive their diplomas immediately following the ceremony.  The ‘Graduate in Absentia Form’ via the student portal must be completed for those students who choose not to participate in the graduation ceremony.  Doctoral students must participate to be hooded.

Caps and gowns should be purchased in the bookstore with separate fees to apply.

Dates Graduation Deadlines
October 15 February completion
October 15 May commencement
March 31 August commencement
March 31 November completion

Students who complete their degrees in the Fall or Winter Terms may participate in the May Commencement ceremonies. Degree awarding, to appear on your transcript, will occur once all degree requirements are conferred by the Dean of your college. Once degrees are conferred, diplomas will be mailed to you with 4-6 weeks to the address you provided on your degree application. You will receive a digital copy of your diploma within a week of your degree conferral and ceremony.

If you would like to receive your diploma without walking in the formal ceremony, the graduation deadlines still apply.

Caps and gowns are only purchased in the bookstore with separate fees to apply.

All calls received in the Registrar's Office requesting verification of student degrees are referred to The National Student Clearinghouse. Any degrees that are not registered with The Clearinghouse are sent from the Registrar's Office to The Clearinghouse directly upon request to be added to The Clearinghouse database. The information is then passed on to the requestor from The Clearinghouse rather than from the Registrar's Office.

For small companies and student verifications in the office, the student completes the form provided, and the verifications are done in the office. These forms are usually picked up by the students. Unless the student has signed release forms, only general directory information is given.

Forms are sent to The Clearinghouse from the Registrar's Office once weekly, usually mailed out on Fridays.

Previous WCU students may request a duplicate diploma on Parchment.com. The diploma will have the name of the student as originally printed unless the student has legal documentation (driver’s license or SSN with marriage license or court documented change) for a name change. This documentation should be emailed to the Office of the Registrar at regoff@wmcarey.edu.

The replacement cost is $30.00 for bachelors, masters, and specialist, and $60.00 for doctoral. Parchment may adjust pricing based on shipping. Please allow 7 to 10 business days for shipping. Orders can be tracked using Parchment.
