The goal of the Carey Institute for Excellence is to expand the WCU outreach by collaborating with a variety of groups across William Carey University as well as local businesses and the community. The Institute is designed to offer trainings that target specific industry and business objectives by providing a variety of professional development trainings and executive seminars. We focus our efforts on developing trainings that support the needs within our local community as well.

Improve your Spanish skills at work, church, and more by learning Essential Spanish. Trainings are once per week for 6 weeks either on Tuesday evenings, from 6-7:30 pm, November 5, 12, 19 & December 3, 10, 17. The non-refundable cost of $60 includes the cost of all materials needed. William Carey University faculty, staff, current students and alumni receive a discount. WCU Alumni Association members receive free trainings compliments of the Alumni Office. Navigating an Evolving Neurodiverse World
The Carey Institute for Excellence will facilitate the Fourth Annual Autism & Neurodiversity Conference on the Hattiesburg Campus in Tatum Court. The journey will begin with a ‘School Spirit Social’ event the night before (February 17, 2025, 5:30 - 7:30 pm) to network and meet some of the speakers. Pack casual attire with your favorite college or school shirt to wear at the social event.
The one-day session topics for the conference on Tuesday, February 18, 8 am - 4 pm in Tatum Court will include perspectives on living in a neurodiverse world, Applied Behavior Analysis, and navigating FBAs and BIPs. The voyage ends with door prizes and .6 CEUs. Register today for this next adventure!

AUTISM TRAINING FOR FIRST RESPONDERS - Evening trainings - early December 2024
House Bill 724 was passed in July 2024 to require first responders to have Autism Training to better equip first responders to appropriately respond to the needs of autism victims in traumatic situations. This training will help identify and discuss best practices in deescalating difficult scenarios. Training dates are being finalized but are tentatively planned for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings 6-10 pm in early December 2024.

RECREATIONAL DRONE TRAINING Date to be determined
The Center for Excellence can offer UAV (unmanned aircraft vehicle), aka Drone training, for recreational use only. Those who attend this training will learn basic operational skills, regulations, videography, etc. At the conclusion of the training, participants can take a FREE test to receive a recreational FAA TRUST certificate.
Training groups can be for established for scouts, marketing teams, businesses, educators, etc., or anyone who is interested in drones. Training groups will need to be limited to approximately 15 people for each group and usually lasts 5-6 hours total.
