Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements

Prospective Students must:

Admit to Carey as a first-time freshman.

Complete all prerequisite courses at William Carey, with the exception of High School Dual Enrollment, AP, and CLEP credit.

Meet additional criteria specific to program of study:

Applicants who are admitted to William Carey University as first-time freshman and complete all required prerequisite coursework at William Carey University will not be required to take the nursing entrance exam, provided the following requirements are met:

Must admit to William Carey University as a first-time freshman and declare Nursing as a major

Must maintain full-time status through the prerequisite period and take all prerequisite courses at William Carey University

Must have ≥ 3.5 high school GPA and maintain a minimum GPA of ≥ 3.0 based on courses required for the BSN degree; all course attempts will be calculated in the GPA

Minimum ACT composite score of 24

Applicants who are admitted to William Carey University as first-time freshman and complete all required prerequisite coursework while maintaining full-time status at William Carey University will be granted automatic admission to the Health Information Management program, provided the following requirements are met:

Earned grade of C or better on all university core classes

Submission of complete, notarized application

Earned GPA of ≥ 2.6 on all prerequisite course work

Applicants who are admitted to William Carey University as first-time freshman and complete all required core classes at William Carey University can transfer to complete their degree or certification in the chosen health-related field. After obtaining licensure or certification in the chosen field, the student will be granted automatic admission to the Health Administration and Education program, provided the following requirements are met:

Submission of complete application

Must be in good standing at William Carey University and must have completed designated core and prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better in each course Earned cumulative GPA of ≥ 2.5

Must hold an associate’s degree in a health-related field or be certified, registered, or licensed in a health-related field or have an associate’s degree equivalent

Applicants who are graduating from William Carey University with a baccalaureate degree will be guaranteed an interview provided the following requirements are met:

Student must be admitted as a freshman to William Carey University and complete all required prerequisite coursework at William Carey University

Student must achieve overall GPA of ≥ 3.5

Student must achieve cumulative science and math GPA of ≥ 3.3

Student must apply for admission through PharmCAS and notify the Assistant Director of admissions of intent to apply through the guaranteed interview process

Applicants who are graduating from William Carey University with a baccalaureate degree will be granted a 20% addition to their overall admission score, provided the student was admitted as a freshman to William Carey University and completed all degree requirements for their baccalaureate degree at William Carey University.
