The Specialist in Education degree in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders equips educators with the critical skills necessary to conduct comprehensive functional assessments and develop effective behavioral intervention plans. Graduates will be proficient in implementing, monitoring, and instructing children and youth who experience significant emotional and behavioral challenges across various contexts, including educational institutions, clinical environments, and residential facilities. This program prepares individuals to make a substantial and positive impact on the lives of these young people.

Program Overview


Hours

This program is 30 hours and may be completed in 12-15 months. Students enroll in the program in cohorts and start only in the fall term.


Delivery Method

Classes are fully online and designed to be flexible and require no synchronous meetings, making this program ideal for the working student who wants to take their education to the next level. Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of materials to use in day-to-day instruction. William Carey uses Canvas as the learning management system for online coursework.  In addition to the course requirements students must complete 300 contact hours with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.


Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements

Prospective students must:

  1. Complete an online application through Graduate Admissions
  2. Submit all official transcripts electronically to Graduate Admissions
  3. Have a GPA >25 in a graduate program
  4. Hold a master’s or graduate degree from an accredited college or university
  5. Provide a copy or qualify to hold the AA teacher's license indicated an active endorsement in Mild/Moderate Disabilities 

Note: Students who hold a M.Ed. in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders degree from WCU may not  be admitted to the Ed.S. program.
