This scholarship opportunity is a collaboration between WCU and the International Mission Board (IMB) and the North American Mission Board (NAMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention, aimed at providing significant financial support and educational opportunities to dependents of both IMB and NAMB employees as well as dependents of endorsed church planters and chaplains of NAMB.


Missionary Dependent Scholarship Details

The Missionary Dependent Scholarships are designed to support the educational pursuits of children whose parents serve full-time with the International Mission Board or the North American Mission Board. There is also a separate scholarship offered for dependents of church planters or chaplains who have been officially endorsed by NAMB. These scholarships offer comprehensive financial coverage and is a testament to our commitment to faith-based education and support for the missionary community.

Scholarship Coverage

Missionary Dependent Scholarships

  • Tuition: Full Tuition coverage*
  • Fees: Full coverage of general fees.
  • Meal Plan: Full coverage of cafeteria meal plan and up to $75 in Dining Dollars per semester.
  • Housing: Full coverage of on-campus housing provided.
  • Textbooks: All required textbooks for undergraduate courses provided free of charge.
  • Additional Fees: Note that late fees, fines, and directed-reading charges are not covered under this scholarship.

*Dependents of the IMB will be required to pay a portion of tuition. This portion has been calculated to equal the amount received by the IMB through the TCK Allowance.

North American Mission Board (NAMB) Endorsed Scholarship

  • Tuition: Guaranteed annual cost of tuition will never exceed $4,500.
  • Fees: Full coverage of general fees.
  • Meal Plan: Full coverage of cafeteria meal plan and up to $75 in Dining Dollars per semester.
  • Housing: Full coverage of on-campus housing provided.
  • Textbooks: All required textbooks for undergraduate courses provided free of charge.
  • Additional Fees: Note that late fees, fines, and directed-reading charges are not covered under this scholarship.

242 Network Endorsed Scholarship

  • Tuition: Guaranteed annual cost of tuition will never exceed $4,500.

International Mission Board (IMB) Dependent Scholarship

Students are eligible for the IMB Dependent Scholarship if their parent(s) are employed full-time by the
International Mission Board and can provide proof of eligibility for the Third Culture Kid (TCK) educational
allowance. Proof of employment and TCK eligibility is determined via official correspondence from an IMB
supervisor.

North American Mission Board (NAMB) Dependent Scholarship

Students are eligible for the NAMB Dependent Scholarship if their parent(s) are employed full-time by the North
American Mission Board. Proof of employment is determined via official correspondence from a NAMB
supervisor.

North American Mission Board (NAMB) Endorsed Scholarship

Students are eligible for the NAMB Endorsed Scholarship if their parent(s) are endorsed by the North American
Mission Board as a church planter or chaplain. Proof of endorsement is determined via official correspondence
from a NAMB supervisor.

242 Network Endorsed Scholarship

Students are eligible for the 242 Network Endorsed Scholarship if their parent(s) are endorsed by the 242 Network as a church planter or chaplain. Proof of endorsement is determined via official correspondence
from a 242 Network supervisor.

Applications must include confirmation of dependent status via official correspondence from an IMB or NAMB supervisor.

Correspondence from an IMB supervisor must clearly state if the family of the student will qualify for the TCK Allowance from the IMB.

Correspondence from a NAMB supervisor must clearly state if the student is a dependent of a full-time Employee of NAMB or a dependent of a NAMB Endorsed church planter or chaplain.

Correspondence from a 242 Network supervisor must clearly state if the student is a dependent of a 242 Network Endorsed church planter or chaplain.

Students must complete the FAFSA every year to receive and maintain eligibility.

*Dependents of the IMB will be required to pay a portion of tuition. This portion has been calculated to equal the amount received by the IMB through the TCK Allowance, thus guaranteeing no out of pocket expense.

Scholarships are reduced by 50% of any qualifying Pell Grant amount.

Scholarship recipients are required to uphold a standard of conduct in alignment with the mission of William Carey University and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. Failure to do so may result in the revocation of the scholarship.

Students must complete the FAFSA annually to maintain this scholarship.

Do I have to live on campus?

No.

Do I have to be enrolled full-time?

No.

Can I receive this scholarship as an online student?

Yes. Online students can receive this scholarship as long as all other qualifications are met. Online fees will be covered by this scholarship.

Can I receive this scholarship if this is my second bachelor's degree or a master's degree?

No. Scholarships associated with the IMB or NAMB are strictly for undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor's degree.

How will my scholarship be posted every semester?

You are responsible for notifying the Office of Financial Aid before each semester to communicate that the charges on your ledger are complete for the upcoming term. At that time, the Office of Financial Aid will post your scholarship for the following semester.

Can I receive this scholarship during the summer?

Yes. However, since the summer term is considered an optional term, you will still be responsible for a portion of your tuition for this term if you are receiving the IMB Dependent Scholarship or the NAMB Endorsed Scholarship.

What does it mean to have my scholarship reduced by 50% of any qualifying Pell Grant Amount?

Students are required to complete the FAFSA every year while receiving this scholarship. If a student qualifies for a Pell Grant, your scholarship will be reduced by 50% of the qualifying Pell Grant amount. An example would be if a student qualifies for $1,000 of Pell, the scholarship amount will be reduced by $500. It is advantageous for the student to receive both a Missionary Dependent Scholarship and a Pell Grant.
