Office of Diversity
The WCUCOM Office of Diversity acknowledges that inequities continue to exist in our society. Yet, we believe that fostering diversity among students, faculty, staff, and administration is essential to effectively train physicians to provide quality and compassionate health care for all individuals.
Therefore, WCUCOM will implement diversity and inclusion programmatic initiatives to provide cultural competency education and training within the WCUCOM in order to enhance the intellectual and cultural environment for people of all backgrounds in the academic community.
Purpose:
- Maintaining a student-centered focus for the Office of Diversity
Duties:
- Articulating student concerns regarding diversity to the Office of Diversity and WCUCOM administration.
- Suggesting diversity programming for the student body.
- Assisting with the organization of mentorship and tutoring programs at local high schools.
- Assisting with recruitment efforts to bring more diverse applicants to WCUCOM.
- Distributing incident report forms to students experiencing harassment, racism, bias, microaggressions, sexism, etc. to be confidentially reported to the Office of Diversity and WCU administration.
Composition:
The Student Diversity Task Force will consist of the following student officers each year:
- Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP) Diversity Liaison (Chair)
- Student National Medical Association (SNMA) President
- Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Vice-President
- 2 - OMS 1 students (Non-executive board member)
- 4- OMS 2 students (Non-executive board member)
