William Carey University receives ‘Military Friendly School’ and ‘Top School’ designation for veterans services
William Carey University has been recognized for its efforts to assist service members and veterans as they continue to seek a better education. Victory Media listed Carey as a 2018 Military Friendly School for its ongoing effort to provide an excellent education for service members. Carey was also designated a “Top School” in the Military Advanced Education and Transition Guide to Colleges and Universities.
“William Carey University has received the ‘Military Friendly School’ recognition for nine consecutive years,” said WCU President Tommy King. “Reaching the ‘Top Schools’ designation attests to our efforts to provide an educational opportunity for members of the military. This is another way that we can show support for those who defend and protect us.”
Michelle Foxworth served 11 years active duty in the U.S. Army and is now a senior majoring in religion and history. “When I moved to Mississippi, I had already started working on my degree at a Baptist college in Texas and wanted to stay in a Christian environment,” she said. “The veterans services office at Carey helped me complete the paperwork of transferring schools and also helped me get approved to do a double major with my GI Bill.”
Military FriendlyThe Military Friendly Schools list is composed by Victory Media, a company whose goal is to make life better for veterans and their spouses by providing a guide specifically made for military families who are looking for the best higher-learning institutions. Victory Media creates the list using data from federal agencies, veteran students, and proprietary survey information from participating organizations and is based on research from more than 8,800 schools nationwide.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by the school. For the first time, student survey data was taken into consideration for the designation. More than 1,300 schools participated in the 2017-2018 survey with 849 earning the designation.
Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet the thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
The 2017-2018 Military Friendly Schools list was published in the December issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found online at
