Mississippi Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (MSESGR) awarded William Carey University the Seven Seals Award during a presentation on Feb. 2.
The award was presented in recognition of Carey’s support of Guard and Reserve members and their families, said Dr. Tim Lea, MSESGR training director.
“Many times military families are affected by deployment, by interruptions due to their call to duty, and William Carey has generated the understanding and the support needed to help them continue on their educational goals without a major disruption.”
WCU President Tommy King said WCU has a long history of supporting military veterans and service members. After the Vietnam War, Carey participated in the Bootstrapper Program, which gave returning service members the opportunity to complete their degrees. “We are proud of our employees and students who serve in the military and are willing to assist them when they are called into duty,” he said.
MSESGR is a Department of Defense office that is led and operated by dedicated volunteers and staff. Its mission is to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The organization has more than 70 volunteers across the state and reaches out to employers and service members in areas such as employer outreach, military outreach, public affairs, mediation, training, and employment initiative programs.
